Ah, to Be Human.

Me

Me

Let me introduce myself. Shatki Sunfire here. Dancer, writer, crafter, explorer, ninja-in-training.

I know I know, Shakti Sunfire is not a ‘normal’ name to be going by. Then again, that’s the point. Leading a ‘normal’ (yawn) life would be far too easy. I’m part of generation (one of those letters) where conventionality just doesn’t fit the bill, and if you’re reading this, I’d venture to say I have a friend in you.

I’m split down the middle.  One foot in the Capricornian business world and one foot standing in the struggling world of the Sagittarian renegade-artist.  What does that make?  One schizophrenic mind-f*%&.  This fall I realized just how much my lifestyle was beginning to wear on me – so what’s my solution?  Get it out, get it out!

No, I’m not a stripper, or a porn star. Sorry to disappoint. Here’s the shtick. Who I am and what I do cannot fit on the line following my name on those annoying HELLO name tags you get at networking events. Which leads me to my life’s mantra: diversification baby!

In a large nutshell (like a walnut or a chestnut) I am a creative writer, a copy writer to be specific. I am a brand(r), I spent two years out of college working for a small brand communications company which I promptly left to hula hoop. Yes, HULA HOOP (see The Kaivalya Hoop Dancers and Cosmic Fire). Sounds crazy, but type in ‘hoop dance’ in google or youtube and you’ll be surprised, I’m not the only one. Add dancer, crafter, renegade.

Last February I took the initiative on a long-running dream of mine and moved to an ashram in Hawaii for 2 months (hence the name Shakti). Add yoga teacher.

After leaving the corporate world I continued to work off and on as a freelance writer – mostly with my brother’s baby gb studio – a semi-profession that fueled (insert: paid for) my web-based businesses. Mainly for tax purposes (I mean, I like juggling but not when it comes to spread sheets) I registered Shakti, LLC… Add serial entrepreneur.

So that it. I wear many hats and I dream big. I am super driven too, not just one of those fluffy dreamers, I DO – which could be part of the problem. Tom Robbins in ‘Skinny Legs and All’ says:

“ambition’s not as bad as AIDS, I reckon. But it can be a whole lot worse than the measles.”

It’s scary how much that resonates… So this is my story. Stay tuned for the happy, the depressing, the exciting and the dramatic in the world of Shakti Sunfire as I begin to figure out where I belong.  These are exciting times folks.

And who knows?  You just may relate.

  1. Just wanted to let you know that I have peeked in on your world,
and shall continue to read up on your hats, and hoops.
    Bright Blessings from Canada!

  2. That is awesome that you were a copywriter but you left to persue your dreams. Lately I have been getting swallowed in the capricornian world of work and businesses to the point that I sometimes forget who I am. Your story is a great reminder to let the fire and rainbows and mountain tops and eclipses that are right under the surface out to play more.

  3. [...] away on my blog poorly attended blog…and it occurred to me like a wave of nausea, my current intro is not only an example of bad writing, it doesn’t reflect where this blog has brought me, or [...]
