I wrote this nearly 1 year ago in the midst of searching for a writing day job. It was a low point in my creative career, both monetarily and inspirationally. As it turns out, I never did go back to the 9-5 and as I've continued to follow my passions the 'money' has started to come in. I totally agree that maintaining integrity for what lights your flame is the key to manifesting the abundance that you need to continue your art. Love! It’s funny you found this now Anah. I both agree and disagree.. I agree that the "artist life" can be wildly disappointing and it can be far more balanced to maintain some sort of day job. I also think it is possible to make your own day job by following your passions and instincts. I think the key is knowing when to stick with your day job and when it is the right time to move fully into your invented day job. And while, yes I have experienced how making money with your art can change your relationship to it, I have found you can transform your thinking around it and create healthy boundaries that keep the integrity of your art alive AND allow you to make money with it... From the perspective of my 44 years, I look back at myself as a 27 year old, dropping everything I had on this continent, to find a new path in another country. At the time it felt a bit like fleeing from failure, like giving up. But now I have circled back to that original place and can see how necessary and glorious those difficult years were. At 27, I felt like I was supposed to have 9/10ths of it worked out as you said in your blog. But at 44, I know I am just beginning. Beautiful article, Shakti. The word evolution has been flashing itself to me alot lately. I have felt these urges since I can even remember....to follow my gut (which is usually like swimming against the current). Well i wonder sometimes..... when people become unhappy, irritated etc. maybe its just your soul slowing down. It spits out a warning or a sign that you need to get up and continue to evolve. There is never time to settle....By expanding ourselves we are taking care of each other. After reading this I realize that I have let fear and lack of motivation take over my life way to many times!
